Alec Guinness
Alec Guinness, known for his collaborations with David Lean, won an Academy Award for his role in The Bridge on the River Kwai. He is most remembered for playing Obi-Wan Kenobi in the original Star Wars trilogy, receiving an Academy Award nomination, and was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 1959. He made regular TV appearances in Britain and received the Academy Honorary Award for lifetime achievement. Guinness, along with Laurence Olivier and John Gielgud, successfully transitioned from Shakespearean theatre to Hollywood blockbusters after WWII. He passed away on 5 August 2000 from liver cancer in West Sussex.
